Lt. Col. Alexander Joseph Wolff1,2,3
M, #393, d. 10 December 1863
Lt. Col. Alexander Joseph Wolff. Served with Wellington at Waterloo.4 He was born in Vienna, Austria.3 In 1824 Adjutant Alexander Wolff, late of the 60th Regiment settled in the Valcartier district of the Province of Quebec (with his family) after a distinguished military career. He served in Egypt under General Abercrombie and also in the Peninsula, was wounded in five separate battles and was the proud possessor of the war medal with sixteen clasps, the largest number held at that period by any officer in the British Army.
So beloved was he by his men that many of the rank and file of his regiment settled in the district in order to be near their old leader. It is said that Adjutant Wolff spent many years on his homestead and ably discharged his duties as a Lieut. Col. Of the Militia and was an active and upright Magistrate.
One of his sons, Lieut. Col. Charles Stuart Wolff led a very adventurous career before settling down at Valcartier. He took part in the hectic gold rush to California in 1849 and later sailed to Australia on a similar adventure where he remained for several years. Upon his return to Valcartier he married Isabelle Neilson, a grand-daughter of the Hon. John Neilson and lived to a ripe old age. Many of his descendants are still in the community.5
He married Hannah Maria Ellert. Lt. Col. Alexander Joseph Wolff died on 10 December 18633 and is buried on 12 December 1863 in Anglican Churchyard, Valcartier, Portneuf, Province of Québec.3

Gen. Abiel Wood1
M, #12296, b. 9 July 1743, d. 11 August 1811
Gen. Abiel Wood was born on 9 July 1743 in Middleborough, Massachusetts.1 He married Elizabeth Tinkham on 19 December 1765 in Middleborough. He was thought to be a Loyalist, and one too stubborn to yield to policy or to reason. Yet, it should be recorded that Whigs in office, at the same moment, certified that they were well acquainted with his general conduct, and believed he was a friend to American liberty. In December, 1775, the House and Council ordered him to be confined, until he should give bond with two sureties in £1000. After the adoption of the Constitution of Massachusetts, he was elected to represent the town of Pownalborough in the General Court, and when he appeared at Boston to take his seat, his course was the subject of immediate investigation on the part of his peers, who, after a review of the proceedings of others, expelled him from the House. Later in life, he filled civil offices, and was a Brigadier-General in the militia.2 Gen. Abiel Wood died on 11 August 1811 in Wiscasset at the age of 68.1
