John Travers Tindal was born on 4 June 1860 in Ramornie, Clarence River, New South Wales.2 He was the son of Charles Grant Tindal and Anne Amory Travers.1 John Travers Tindal married Mary Isabella Ogilvie, daughter of Hon. Edward David Stewart Ogilvie and Theodosia Burgh, on 20 June 1888.1 John Travers Tindal died on 30 August 1926 in Darlinghurst, Sydney, New South Wales, at the age of 66
Obituary.-The death occurred in a private hospital at Darlinghurst of Mr. John Travers Tindal, of Tatiara, Glen Innes. The deceased gentleman, who was 66 years of age, was bom at Ramornie, Clarence River, and was a son of the late Mr. Charles Grant Tindal, father of the Australian meat export trade. Through the medium of the Ramornie meatworks, deceased's father pioneered the tinned meat export, and established for the Ramornie products a reputation without equal throughout the world. Educated in England, the late Mr. Tindal returned to Australia, and married Miss Ogilvie, a sister of Mr. W. F. Ogilvie, of Ilparran. After a long period of residence on the Clarence River, the late Mr. Tindal acquired Tatiara from Mr. John Strang, and resided in the Glen Innes district until early this year, when he disposed of his Glen Innes interests. The late Mr. Tindal is survived by his widow and four daughters - Mrs. Travers (Singapore), Misses Dorothy, Freda, and Marjory. His only son was killed in the Great War.3,4

She was born on 15 December 1862 in 42 York Terrace, London.1 She was the daughter of Vice-Admiral Louis Symonds Tindal and Henrietta Maria O'Donel White. Katherine Mary Adela Tindal was baptised on 6 February 1863 at St. Marks, St. Pancras, Middlesex. She apparently married Frederick Brunning Maddison, son of Frederick Patey Chappell, on 4 October 1882 in Marylebone Parish Church, London, where the bride gave her age as 21.2 They again married on 14 April 1883 in Christ Church, Lancaster Gate, London. Katherine Mary Adela Tindal died on 12 June 1929 at a nursing home, 53 Castlebar Road, Ealing, London, at the age of 66.3,4

Lieut. Louis Nicolas Lindsay Tindal was born at Ramornie, and educated at Southport, Queensland, and the Armidale School. He is 23 years of age, and sailed for England in May, 1915. He gained his commission in the 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment, soon after his arrival, but was not sent to France until July, 1916. He was highly commended, and awarded the Military Cross for leading his company (in the absence of his captain, who was disabled) during a very severe fight on 31st July and 1st August, 1917, and setting a fine example to his men. He was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and Battalion Intelligence Officer about the same time, and later, in the absence of the Brigade Intelligence Officer on sick leave, occupied that position for some weeks.

Vice-Admiral Louis Symonds Tindal was born on 29 August 1811.1 He was the son of Sir Nicolas Conyngham Tindal and Merelina Symonds.1 Vice-Admiral Louis Symonds Tindal married Henrietta Maria O'Donel White, daughter of William Henry White Hedges, on 15 January 1853 in St. James's Church, Westbourne Terrace, London.2 Vice-Admiral Louis Symonds Tindal died on 4 February 1876 in 23 Lansdowne Place, Brighton, Sussex, at the age of 64.3,4

Louis Symonds Tindal entered the Navy 3 Feb. 1825; passed his examination in 1831; and obtained his first commission 29 Dec. 1832. His succeeding appointments were – 17 Nov. 1834, to the Pique 36, Capt. Hon. Henry John Rous, which frigate, while he was in her, ran ashore on the coast of Labrador, was got off with great difficulty, and crossed the Atlantic without a rudder – 16 Jan. 1836, to the Vestal 26, Capt. Wm. Jones, on the North America and West India station – and 10 Nov. 1837, to the Calliope 26, Capt. Thos. Herbert. In the ship last mentioned he served for some time in South America, and then sailed for the coast of China, where, in the early part of 1841, we find him present in the attack upon Chuenpee, in the action with the Bogue forts, at the storming of the enemy’s works close to Whampoa Reach (in which were found 54 pieces of cannon), at the capture of the last fort protecting the approaches to Canton, and in the first and second series of hostilities against that city. As a reward for his conduct he was advanced to his present rank 8 June, 1841. He was appointed, 16 Oct. following, to the Pylades 18, which vessel he brought home from the East Indies and paid off in Oct. 1843; and, since 16 July, 1846, he has been in command of the Grecian 12, on the S.E. coast of America. Agents – Messrs. Stilwell.5

John Tindal and Elizabeth Prideaux.1 Rev. Nicholas Tindal married firstly Anne Keate on 29 January 1710.1 Rev. Nicholas Tindal proceeded in 1713 from Exeter College, Oxford, MA.2 He married secondly Elizabeth Judith Gugelman on 11 August 1753 in the chapel of Greenwich Hospital.2 Rev. Nicholas Tindal died on 27 June 1774 in Greenwich Hospital at the age of 86.2 He was buried on 2 July 1774 in Goddard's Garden, Greeenwich.2

Nicolas Charles Tindal was born on 27 November 1857 in London.1 He was the son of Vice-Admiral Louis Symonds Tindal and Henrietta Maria O'Donel White. Nicolas Charles Tindal was baptised on 8 February 1858 at St. Peter's, Notting Hill, London.2 He was educated at Westminster School to which he was admitted on 26 September 1872 and left at Christmas 1874.3 He could possibly be the N.C. Tindal aged 35 who is recorded as having arrived in Australia on board the Port Pirie on 3 February 1888.4 He arrived in Sydney on 13 January 1890 as 2nd mate on the 33 ton missionary steamer Ellengowan in-bound from the South Sea islands; he is listed as super-caro when the same vessel docks again in Sydney on 4 December 1891, this time from the Solomon Islands.
He was subsequently a trader on Faisi.5 He married Minnie Thursa Louise McDonald, daughter of John McDonald and Melinda (Unknown), in 1895 on Island of Faisi, Shortland Islands, Solomon Islands. Nicolas Charles Tindal died on 4 January 1901 at the age of 43 at sea aboard the SS Titus and was buried on Lord Howe Island.
He was subsequently a trader on Faisi.5 He married Minnie Thursa Louise McDonald, daughter of John McDonald and Melinda (Unknown), in 1895 on Island of Faisi, Shortland Islands, Solomon Islands. Sir Nicolas Conyngham Tindal. Chief Justice of the Common Pleas. He was born on 12 December 1776 in Coval Hall, near Chelmsford, Essex.1 He was the son of Robert Tindal and Sarah Pocock.1 Sir Nicolas Conyngham Tindal married Merelina Symonds, daughter of Capt. Thomas Symonds RN and Elizabeth Malet, on 2 September 1809 in Milford, Hampshire.2 Sir Nicolas Conyngham Tindal died on 6 July 1846 in Folkestone at the age of 69 at 7.30 in the evening.1 He was buried on 14 July 1846 in Kensal Green Cemetery, Middlesex.1 Probate of the will and codicil of the late Right Hon. Sir Nicholas Conyngham Tindal, Knt., Lord Chief-Justice of her Majesty's Court of Common Pleas, at Westminster, has been granted to his executors, Charles John Tindal, James Whatman Bosanquet, and Daniel Smith Bockett, Esquires. The personal estate was valued at 45,000l. His will was made in September, 1842. He has devised certain freeholds at Chelmsford and Aylesbury to his eldest surviving son, Louis Symonds Tindal, and his only other son, Charles John Tindal; and has directed his executors and trustees to dispose of and convert into money the rest of his freeholds, with all manors and hereditaments, and all other estates, real, leasehold, or personal. Bequeaths to his daughter, Merelina, wife of the said J. W. Bosanquet, a legacy of 2,000l., having amply provided for her on her marriage. Directs his executors to invest 8,000l. for the widow of his son, Nicholas, and their two infant daughters, and has also made provision for other members of his family; has left legacies to his servants, and by his codicil, made in February last, leaves to his faithful housekeeper, who has been thirty years in his service an annuity of 40l. The residue of his property, of every description, to be equally divided between his two sons. His Lordship was in his sixty-ninth year.3

He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, taking his B.A. degree in 1845 and his M.A. in 1848. He entered at Lincoln's Inn on May 3,1845, and afterwards practised as a special pleader in Paper Buildings, Temple. For many years ho enjoyed a large practice, and was well known at Judges' Chambers. He was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1885, but never appeared in Court.3
