YORK HARBOR - Jean "Happy" S. Strater, 94, passed away peacefully at Sentry Hill with loving family by her side on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016.

She was born Oct. 31, 1922, the daughter of the late Arthur E. Sewall and Katherine Weare. Happy was born and raised in York, attended York schools, then went on to attend the Dana Hall School, and the College of William & Mary.

The wife of David Strater, who passed away in 1999, Happy is survived by five children: Nicholas Strater and wife Jean, of York, Minshall Strater of Greensboro, N.C., Jonathan Strater and wife Patricia, of York, Nanette Ruppert of Surry, and Katherine Strater of Surry; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by sisters, Ann Wilson and Elizabeth Winton.

Happy enjoyed sailing, wherever the wind and water would take her, and her family. She loved visiting the family's summer house on Lawry's Island, playing games, reading, watching movies, and doting on her beloved cat George. She was a longtime volunteer at York Hospital.4

Jeanne Elizabeth Sewall, born May 20, 1943, in New Wilmington, PA, to Russell and Louise (Kepple) Sewall, passed away in Lincoln Park, New Jersey, November 1, 2015, after a long illness. She was 72.
Her father owned Sewall's TV and Appliance Store on South Market Street in New Wilmington.
The family attended Neshannock Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother Louise in 1984, and her father in 1990.
Jeanne studied Music Education and Organ, at Westminster College, and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education.
She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She taught elementary music her entire teaching career until her retirement, and served a one-year term as President of the New Jersey Education Association.
She loved opera, and was a season ticket holder at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City, and a member of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City.
Her ashes will be interred in the Cathedral in May 2016.
She is survived by her brother, James R. Sewall, of Chicago, IL.1

Jeremiah Noyes Sewall1

M, #13124, b. 13 October 1808, d. 11 April 1884
     Jeremiah Noyes Sewall was born on 13 October 1808.1 He was the son of James Sewall and Lucy Noyes.1 Jeremiah Noyes Sewall married Hannah Bell Bird on 14 April 1832 in Trinity Church, New York, New York.2 Jeremiah Noyes Sewall died on 11 April 1884 in Hahnemann Hospital, New York, at the age of 75, he had been ill for some time having had a stroke.3 The funeral took place on 14 April 1884 at St. Ann's Episcopal Church, West 18th St., New York, and he was buried in Greenwood Cemetery.4

He came to New York in about 1839 and he ultimately became a broker. At one time he had considerable wealth, but he suffered continued losses, and he gradually lost his means. For the past few years he has been employed in the office of the Surveyor of the Port. He was a member of the Union League Club and of the New England Society. He leaves a widow but no children.

He worked in 1837-1850 as a jeweler in New York City NY initially with a shop at 58 Nassua Street. He was a partner in 1838-1840 with Adnah Sackett in New York City NY as SACKETT & SEWALL, with a shop at 59 Nassau Street. Sackett remained in Providence, while Sewall maintained the city store.5

He was a heavy equipment operator for Hennepin County for 28 years. Jerry loved fishing, golfing, water and snow skiing, woodworking and Chevy trucks. Although Alzheimer's took his memory, Jerry remained cheerful and physically strong to the very end. In honor of Jerry, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association.6

Joanna Sewall1

     Joanna Sewall was born on 10 January 1788.1 She was the daughter of Samuel Sewall and Hannah Moulton.1 Joanna Sewall died on 29 January 18542 and is buried in First Parish Cemetery, York Village, Maine.2

Joanna Sewall1

     Joanna Sewall was born in 1814.1 She was the daughter of John Sewall and Cynthia A. Fickett.1 Joanna Sewall married Zaccheus P. Eastes in 1830.2 Joanna Sewall died on 7 December 1847 in Bangor, Maine.3

Joanne Myra Sewall1

     Joanne Myra Sewall was born on 13 December 1936 in Exeter, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.1,2 She was the daughter of Walter James Sewall and Myra Louise Albee.1 Joanne Myra Sewall died on 29 November 2014 in Madbury, Strafford County, New Hampshire, at the age of 772 and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket, Rockingham County, New Hampshire.3

Joanne (Sewall) Stewart, 77, formerly of Packer's Falls Road, died peacefully on Saturday, November 29th 2014, at her daughter's home in Madbury surrounded by family.
Born December 13, 1936 in Exeter, she was the daughter of Walter and Myra (Albee) Sewall.
Joanne graduated from Newmarket High School, Class of 1955, she was still very involved with them and enjoyed the yearly reunions. She enjoyed meeting her girlfriends to play dominos, crocheting and knitting.
She worked many years at the McAllen Company in Newmarket and later on at the Country House in Durham.
She was a communicant and sang in the choir of the Christian Faith Church in Newfields and formerly Newmarket Community Church.
Joanne was a member of the Dover Elks.
She is survived by her son and his wife, James C. and Vicki Stewart III of Effingham; two daughters and their husbands, Pamela and Randy Hatch of Madbury and Julie Stewart-Phelps and Ross Phelps of Tilton; five grandchildren, Jim, David, Sarah, MacKenzie, and Avery; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.2

John Sewall

M, #18, b. 10 October 1654, d. 8 August 1699
     John Sewall. A farmer of Newbury. Ancestor of all the Sewalls of Maine.1 He was born on 10 October 1654 in Baddesley, Hampshire.2,3 He was the son of Rev. Henry Sewall and Jane Dummer. John Sewall was baptised on 22 November 1654 by Mr. Henry Cox, Minister of Bishopstoke, in his father's house.4,5 He emigrated in 1661 "came to Newbury from England."2 He married Hannah Fessenden on 27 October 1674 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the marriage was conducted by Mr. Danforth.6,7 John Sewall died on 8 August 1699 in Newbury at the age of 448 and is buried in First Parish Burying Ground, Newbury, Essex County, Massachusetts, near his father.9
