     Katharine Gresley was the daughter of Sir John Gresley of Drakelow and Colton and Elizabeth Clarell.1 Katharine Gresley married John Cawarden, son of Sir John Cawarden and Elizabeth Malveysin, Katherine, who is only mentioned as having married Sir William Peto (occ. 1430, d. 1464-5) who was a son of William de Peto (d. 1406-7) by Joan daughter of Sir John Thornbury and subsequently wife of Sir Robert Corbet. William and Katherine had a son John, born in about 1434 (d. 1487-8), who in 1453-4 married Eleanor Mantfeld.

It is possible that this Katherine had previously married John Cawarden, of Mavesyn Ridware, before 1426, and had a son John and several other children by him: but as her husband survived her and married secondly Margaret Boteler and did not die till July 8, 1475, there is some unexplained mystery. Possibly there were two sisters Katherine, or conceivably a divorce.1,2,3

     Nellie Bingham Grier was born on 9 February 1925 in Clover, South Carolina.2 She was the daughter of Dr. William Pressly Grier and Nellie Bingham.3,2 Nellie Bingham Grier married John Ladd Sewall, son of William Sewall and Sarah Elizabeth Trask, on 8 October 1949 in the Associate Reformed Presbyterian church, Clover, South Carolina.3 Nellie Bingham Grier died on 25 February 2008 in Due West, South Carolina, at the age of 83.2

Nellie Grier Sewall passed away on Feb. 25, 2008, at the Due West Retirement Center in Due West, S.C., with her family present.
Nellie was born in Clover, S.C., on Feb. 9, 1925, to the Rev. William Pressly Grier and Nellie Bigham Grier. She was the fourth of five children: Paul, William "Kit", John Miller, Nellie and Rachel. She was graduated from Erskine College, Due West, S.C., in 1942. In 1949, she married John Ladd Sewall; they resided in Newport News, Va., for 58 years. A founding member of Hidenwood Presbyterian Church, Nellie attended Women's Circle for years and was elected to be the church's first woman elder. In addition to raising a family, Nellie enjoyed the local Home Demonstration Club and the Garden Club of Virginia; she volunteered at the emergency counseling hotline CONTACT and served as president of the local chapter of the American Association of University Women. After her children were grown, she worked for 12 years as an administrative assistant for a financial planning firm. She took sailing lessons, tennis lessons and art lessons; she enjoyed being outdoors and slaved over her yard. Her love of fish and seafood is almost legendary. She frequented nearly all of the seafood shops in Hampton and Newport News, as well as the fisherman who sold out of his truck in Hilton Village. The Crab Shack was her favorite restaurant.
She is survived by her children, William Grier Sewall, Martha Dudley Sewall and her husband, Thomas Rees, Richard Warren Sewall and his wife, Kathleen Probus, and Jonathan Mark Sewall and his wife, Paula Clemens; eight grandchildren, Griffith Sewall Rees, Shelley Myvanwy Sewall Rees, Jeremy Ladd Sewall, David James Sewall, Michael Warren Sewall, Susanna Katherine Nellie Sewall, David Clemens-Sewall and Mary Versa Clemens-Sewall. Murray - she had lost all her children & on July 31st had one son now her only child". The burial record calls him "of Ormstown"8,9 and is buried on 8 May 1841 in Old Military Cemetery, Montréal.9,3

This is the first break in the family of seven. The brothers are: William and Kenneth, Napanee; Mrs. Huff, Peterboro; Mrs. Wensley, Campbellford: Mrs. J.A.L. Robinson; Regina, and Miss Pearl at home, The remains will be sent to Napanee and the funeral will be announced later.4
