Rodney B. Foster was born in East Knox, Waldo county, Maine, December 25, 1855, being the youngest son of William and Lucinda Foster. When a young man he emigrated west arriving in Kansas in September, 1878. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Whitsett and to them one child was born. Mrs. Foster died in February, 1889, and upon Mr. Foster developed the care of rearing the infant child. Many of the older residents of Clay Center will remember the true devotion displayed by him during this trying period.
November 15. 1893, he was again united in marriage to Miss Matie Bowers. They continued to reside in Clay Center until November last when they removed to Los Angeles. Cal.
Early in life Mr. Foster united with the Methodist church and lived thereafter a consistent Christian life, dying firm in the faith he so early embraced. When he knew death was certain he arranged his business that his loved ones might suffer as little inconvenience as possible in straightening his affairs after he had passed away, then with remarkable fortitude and patience be awaited the inevitable end which came to him Wednesday, May 27, at 10 o’clock p.m. Of relatives he leaves a wife and daughter, Miss Fannie, and two brothers, William Foster of Ogden, Kan., and Hiram of North Adams, Mass. - Manitou Journal.5
