Rev. John Sparhawk1

M, b. September 1713, d. 30 April 1755
     Rev. John Sparhawk was born in September 1713 in Bristol, Rhode Island.2 He was the son of Rev. John Sparhawk and Priscilla Hemans.2,3 Rev. John Sparhawk graduated in 1731 from Harvard.1 He was ordained on 8 December 1736 at First Church, Salem, Massachusetts.2,3 He married Jane Porter, daughter of Rev. Aaron Porter and Susannah Sewall, on 4 October 1737 at Major Sewall's house, Boston, she was described in The Boston Gazette as being a young gentlewoman of great beauty and merit.4,5 Rev. John Sparhawk died on 30 April 1755 in Salem at the age of 41.2

     Of Kittery, Maine.1 Nathaniel Sparhawk was born on 1 August 1744.2 He was the son of Col. Nathaniel Sparhawk and Elizabeth Pepperell. Nathaniel Sparhawk married firstly Catherine Sparhawk, daughter of Rev. John Sparhawk and Jane Porter.2 Nathaniel Sparhawk married secondly Elizabeth Bartlett, daughter of Hon. Enoch Bartlett and Katherine Dummer, in 1780.2 Nathaniel Sparhawk married for his third wife Deborah Adams in 1786 they separated after a short life together and she remained at home whilst he went to London.2 Nathaniel Sparhawk died in 1814 or 1815 in Kittery, Maine.2,3

     Col. Nathaniel Sparhawk was born on 28 March 1715.3 He was the son of Rev. John Sparhawk and Priscilla Hemans.3 Col. Nathaniel Sparhawk married Elizabeth Pepperell, daughter of Sir William Pepperrell and Mary Hirst, on 1 May 1742 in Kittery, Maine, (10 June 1742 in Sparhawk.4,5) On 1776 he entered military service as a Massachusetts Militia. Col. Nathaniel Sparhawk retired from military service in 1779. He was born before 1797.6

He was in Bostonin 1774 and 1775, and was an addresser of both Hutchinson and Gage. Subsequently he went to England with his family, of four persons.2 He married (unknown) (Unknown) in London.1 Samuel Hirst Sparhawk died in 1787.1

Sir William Pepperell Sparhawk1

M, b. 30 November 1746, d. December 1816
     Sir William Pepperell Sparhawk was baptised on 30 November 1746.2 He was the son of Col. Nathaniel Sparhawk and Elizabeth Pepperell.1 Sir William Pepperell Sparhawk graduated in 1766 from Harvard.3 He married Elizabeth Royall, daughter of Hon. Isaac Royall, on 12 November 1767 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.4 His name was legally changed to Sir William Pepperell Bart was made the heir of Sir William Pepperell (1696-1759) if he dropped the name Sparhawk. He was soon deprived of his vast possessions, for, on account of his loyalty to the King, they were confiscated at the outbreak of the Revolution. He removed to England where he was allowed an annuity by the Crown.5,3,6 Sir William Pepperell Sparhawk died in December 1816 in Portman Square, London, at the age of 70 without male issue living. The baronetcy became extinct.3,7
