Major Thomas Savage1,2

M, b. circa 1607, d. 14 February 1682
Major Thomas Savage was born circa 1607 in England.3 He was the son of William Savage.3 Major Thomas Savage emigrated from London on the Planter on 2 April 1635 to Boston but soon removed to Rhode Island with William Hutchinson whose daughter Faith he had married but very soon returned to Boston where he remained the rest of his life.

He was a creditor of the Iron Works Company and became a very large land owner in Braintree as a result of the foreclosures on the company property there, but besides his holdings so acquired he was owner of land in the present East Braintree listed in the Book of Possessions at Boston about 1644 which in all probability was an original land grant to him as were the adjoining lands mentioned in that book and listed there by their owners. "Ensigne Thomas Savage" gives, "also a farme at Braintree lying in two parts, the one containing thirty eight acres and a quarter bounded with rocky ground westwards, James Everill north, Richard Cooke south, and a salt bay east. The other contains twenty six acres and is bounded with rocky ground eastwards, William Wendall and George Hunne westwards, James Everill north, and Richard Cooke south. (This later tract was sold in 1645/6 to James Everill and listed with his possessions in the same book). Also one acre three quarters of marsh bounded with Oliver Mellowes east and north, Richard Cooke west, Monatiquot River south. He married firstly Faith Hutchinson, daughter of William Hutchinson and Ann Marbury, circa 1637; and had seven children.4,5 Major Thomas Savage married secondly Mary Symmes, daughter of Rev. Zechariah Symmes, on 15 September 1652 at Boston, Massachusetts; and had eleven children.5,6 Major Thomas Savage died on 14 February 1682 in Boston "very suddenly."7,6
