     James Livingston was born on 22 September 1646 in Stranraer.2,3 He was the son of Rev. John Livingston of Ancrum and Janet Fleming.1 James Livingston married (unknown) (Unknown). He was a merchant at Edinburgh, fell under the displeasure of the Privy Council, and was fined two hundred pounds.4 James Livingston married secondly Christian Fish in 1683; by a contract dated 15 August 1683.4 James Livingston died in June 1700 in Edinburgh at the age of 53 and buried in the Greyfriars' Burial Ground on 4 June.3

James Livingston1

M, b. 27 March 1747, d. 29 November 1832
     James Livingston was born on 27 March 1747.2 He was the son of John Livingston and Catryna Ten Broeck.1 He raised a body of men under the standard of the American Congress. As their commander, he marched against Fort Chambly, seized its entire stores and garrison, and afterward accompanied General Montgomery to Quebec. On the failure of the expedition, Colonel Livingston returned to New York, and in 1776 his men were incorporated by Congress into a regiment called the Canadian Battalion. He was at the battle of Stillwater in 1777, in 1780 was quartered in the Highlands, and served until 1781, when his regiment was reduced.2 James Livingston married Elizabeth Simpson in 1772 in Montréal.3 James Livingston died on 29 November 1832 at the age of 85.3
